About the Shepherd of the Hills Branson MO Outdoor Drama Show

It's not just a show; it's an experience. Right before your very eyes you will see acted out the story that made the Ozark area famous. With over 90 cast members joining in, this sell-out show brings audiences to their feet. Over 20 animals, including horses, donkeys, mules, and sheep add to the story line, along with a real-life burning log cabin, guns, and an authentic 1908 DeWitt auto.

The drama's first season began in 1959 and has since brought millions of Branson Missouri visitors, children and adults alike, to the outdoor stage. Considered to be the 'story of the Ozarks', in both a spiritual worship and materialistic sense, this show captures the spirit of the past Ozark ancestors' spirit and God's word in this beautiful outdoor production. The 'Shepherd of the Hills' was the inspiration for this area. The outdoor drama centers around a love story between two unique characters, a young man and woman. In its complexity, the outdoor drama play also delves into the mysterious friendly and good shepherd who wanders the hills, into his tragic past and into the past of the neighboring hill people who stayed in the area. In its entirety, the drama is about redemption, forgiveness, and love. 'The story of the Ozarks' has insights for every visitor to this gorgeous outdoor stage in Branson. Shepherd of the Hills has been the fourth most widely read book in publishing history. The book has sold millions of copies and gave birth to the tourism attraction of the Ozark area.

Experience some amazing fun at Shepherd Hills Historic Homestead!

The experience takes you back in time from the second that you leave your car. Guests will be driven to the outdoor theater in a Jeep-drawn tram; watch the trees go by and imagine yourself as a pioneer. The outdoor theater is unlike anything else; you'll be able to enjoy the sounds of nature and fresh air instead of being crowded into a packed indoor theater. Before the show, you are welcome to meet with the cast, take pictures, and get their autographs. Kids can participate in gunny sack races and play with the show's animals. During the play's intermission, guests are invited to join the cast in a welcoming square dance hoedown that is fun regardless of age. You'll get to dance and party just like they did back in the 1800's! You'll feel like you've entered a whole new century. The entire outdoor production leaves audiences talking about the show for years to come.

Some other awesome attractions in this Southern Missouri area include Branson's beloved Silver Dollar City, Inspiration Tower observation deck which resides over the Shepherd of the Hills Branson MO Homestead, and other amazing attractions that truly bring this Missouri Ozarks community together.
